Then we went to the Humane Society where we picked up the kitten we had decided on on Friday. He's a little orange and white long-haired kitten with beautiful green-yellow eyes. He's happy, bouncy, and purrs for everything. He was cautiously curious in the carrier and happily batted at a dead leaf he found in there. He started to get scared and acted like a caged cat (which he was) and we talked to him to make him feel better until we got home. We set the carrier on the floor near the couch and found our other cat, Atton, and put him in front of the carrier. At first he sniffed it as if to say, "Why is this in here?" And then he noticed there was something alive in it. He jumped back, knelt down, ears flat, and then he ran away. Are all cats scared of kittens? He hissed and growled a little. Mara, the cat we are replacing with this new one, did that when we brought Atton home. Atton followed the kitten around the house as the kitten happily explored. It was so excited to sniff around at everything. We at first wanted to give him a Wookiee name, but nothing was really fitting. Then I looked at Ewok names but nothing very fitting there either. My husband's Canadian friend suggested Bonecrusher. Somehow it stuck. It was just so cute and yet so wrong. His nickname is Bony, which sounds like Pony. Since he's a long haired cat I get to brush him. So he's like a live-action toy pony to brush. Here are some pictures of Bonecrusher the Destroyer, Overlord of Northwestern Montana, Scourge of Moldavia, Bane of the Mountain Mice.
That is Bonecrusher exploring the bedroom. That is my husband's foot you see next to him.
We had Betty Crocker Tuna Helper Classic Creamy Broccoli, 6.4oz
After that we were just putting our dishes in the sink when my mom called to say she was in town. She came over and we talked for a while. She met her new grandson and fell in love with him. He apparently liked her too as he fell asleep in her arms. Poor thing, that was the first sleep he had since we brought him home. He somehow managed to stay excited enough about the new house to keep himself up for five hours straight! That's impressive for a kitten! You could tell he was exhausted though, as he kept falling over and acting like he was going to sleep, then getting up and taking a few steps, or stretching out, then falling back over, then suddenly he'd bounce up and run somewhere else.
Last night when I went to bed Bonecrusher tried to sleep on my ear, purring all the time. Then he tried to walk on my face. I ended up taking him into the other room where my husband was on the computer. He slept behind my husband's moniter for a bit and then came to see me again. Finally we came to an arrangement. I would sleep on the bed, face cat-free, and Bonecrusher would sleep under the bed on the floor.
Apparently my husband had the same cat-on-face problem this morning after I left for work. lol!
This morning I had the Cinnamon Toast Crunch again and put my hair in the double braided buns again. Today being the Wednesday after Labor Day it was pretty bad. I was almost done facing when the grocery truck pulled in at 7AM. Deli/Frozen came in at 8. All the while we had all our big vendors all over. We put Fun down Aisle 8 and Pepsi and Coke where we could find room. Flathead had to wait. We barely had room for grocery and then deli/frozen happened to have another 11 boards. Lovely. Of course the grocery manager laughed, said he loved holidays, and disappeared leaving me to figure out where to put 39 pallets when our backroom could only fit 24 outside the red zone. I ended up putting about 5 inside the red zone and non foods hauled some of their Halloween stuff away. The rest of the day after the trucks wasn't so bad. I checked once, not bad. I did have a bad customer who, while I was checking for markdowns, ripped the door away from where I was standing and crowded me out. She barely glanced at me, without saying a word, as though she expected ME to say "excuse me" and then took her product and left. It didn't bother me a whole lot though.
I had another bad customer, she's a repeat actually. She comes in every so often, very randomly, and asks for a case of Creme Brulee coffee creamer. As if we have enough to spare. After she comes along we usually don't have any more for anyone for another two or three days. Because she's just so incredibly special and higher than thou that no one else matters. It's as if people don't realize that when they buy large quantities without special ordering that the store is out. That means no one else gets any. How do you like it when you go to a store for a product and they're out because the person who got there first bought them all? You're pretty upset, right? And you probably blame the employee. As if we have any control over that. Special ordering is wonderful. You tell the store in advance that you want something, they get it in, you pick it up, and no one suffers. Everyone is happy, product for all, no stress.
And I was being a bit unfair yesterday. Ever since the Super Wal-Mart opened up business has been down. Thank God. We're not hurting badly, not as much as our delightful store director presumed, but considering how few hours we're given I'm more than happy about the slight decrease of customers. I stayed a little bit of overtime to finish getting the yoplait back into shape as over the weekend everyone decided they desperately needed tons and tons of yogurt and it was pretty wiped out still. Because the load that comes in Friday lasts though to Monday, so if I sell out of something over the weekend Monday's load will reflect on what I thought I would sell as of Friday, so if I ordered one case of something but ended up selling three cases more than I thought I would and the shelf was empty on Monday morning, that one case that comes in on Monday is most certainly not going to last through until Wednesday's load. But overall, things are much better than they were a year ago. At least I don't spend a lot of my days on the verge of tears anymore. That was pretty much standard a year ago or so.
We were going to have taco casserole for dinner but we don't have enough tortilla chips. I had assumed when my husband told me he "only had a few" chips out of the bag that meant there was still enough. But, no, no, the bag is only about 1/4 full. So chicken patties it is, then. We like to put provolone on them as they're cooling down so it melts a little. I then like to put mayonnaise on my buns followed with copious amounts of ketchup. My husband prefers honey mustard with his mayonnaise.
And so, off to Neopets I go. ...because it's just so ironic to ignore my live pets to play with fake ones...
