Work:
I worked 6-2 today. It was a fairly slow day. Bret was doing pretty much nothing but making everyone panic with his presence. He was running around freaking out. He yelled at me earlier for being out of the land of lakes butter that's on sale. I told him I had some saved for tomorrow and he seemed to be ok with that. Land of lakes butter does not sell. Occasionally if it's on sale it'll sell a little. But it's selling pretty fast right now. hm. A lot of people asked if we had any more and I had to keep telling them no. And since it's a mega event item I can't substitute anything cause it won't go through the system right even if the checkers put it in at the sale price. It's one of those sales where if you buy 10 participating items you get 5 dollars off your total. And I wouldn't have even had to save any for tomorrow except corporate's coming tomorrow. I had a lot of product I had to save, actually. International Coffee Creamers (which are not in the ad but are on the mega event so I wasn't able to order them for Wednesday cause I didn't know they were on going on sale!). 24oz cottage cheeses (which are on a "this went on sale randomly and there's no telling when it'll go off" sale) so I ordered light for Wednesday in case it went off sale, which it didn't. The Mountain High yogurt that also is on a random sale and I forgot to buy some, I wanted some. Oh well.
Zhaun told me some new stupid rules they made up. I don't know, it's like they have nothing to do but sit in the office and try to find some way to justify their paycheck. So they make up stupid rules that have no sense. I have four shelves for each of my types of gallon milk. They want us to have one facing on the bottom shelf, two facings on the second one, and to fill the other two. What??? We already keep the bottom shelf light, two facings at most, but the second shelf? I NEED the second shelf full, especially for 2%! 1% is really the only milk I could consistently get away with doing that with. Also I am not allowed to have more than two dates of milk on the shelf. So if I have one gallon dated the 1st, 19 gallons dated the 3rd, and the rest are 5ths I can't put out any 5ths until I sell off that one 1st? (A full milk section with a two-deep facing on the bottom holds 68 gallons) Also they want me to start doing markdowns 4 days out and 3 days out I am to donate them. What??? They're giving me one day to sell perfectly good product? This is stupid. This is really stupid. If an item has 4 days on it there's an 80% chance I'll sell it at full retail before it goes bad. My markdowns sell. Every once in a great while I have to get rid of a few markdowns that expired. Not only do my markdowns sell but they sell at above cost! Do you know how much dairy is going to shrink if I start marking down 4 days in advance? (I go today and tomorrow, always, and it works for me) I am so, so glad I won't be around on Inventory day to find out how bad dairy did. Now, out of these things I don't really have to do any of them. I have to make it look like I'm doing that. I have to do what I do, no report can say what kind of date my product has on it when I mark it down. And the milk is something even Zhaun said I only have to do for visits. The milk dates are something that if anyone catches it I can go "oops, how did that happen". But it did make me so glad I'm getting out of there.
This remodel sucks. The color schemes they're choosing make it look like the circus came to town and vomited. In addition to that horrid yellow we have stripes of blue to break it up. Yes, our store is being painted in yellow and blue stripes. The service deli is getting a tiled wall. The tiles are multi-colored pastels. Not even one color scheme, like shades of yellow or something, oh now. They are every color you can think of. Reds, blues, greens, yellows. You know, they took away our beautiful, sophisticated, elegant, professional gray colored shirts some years ago and forced us all to wear silly, fast-food-style, bright red shirts. And now this. It really is like the circus vomited us out. I can't wait to get out of there.
Nora, service deli manager, was telling me how the visit tomorrow will be bad due to the remodel. Well, at least she has the excuse of the remodel for why her department looks bad, they've already started changing service deli. I have no excuse cause they're not touching dairy till after Thanksgiving. At least I have Dustin tonight. He's going to do all the cleaning. And I hope he actually does it too. I'm going in at 5 tomorrow. Which is good cause normally they have me in at 4.
