The cake was a Duncan Hines Red Velvet, since they stopped putting Red 40 Lake in their mixes Victor can eat them. I used Pillsbury Creamy White frosting in the middle and a tiny bit on the outside of the cake to give the fondant something to stick to, since I read that you should do that.
Here's the recipe for the fondant. I followed it almost exactly. About the only real difference is that I used a 10.5oz bag of marshmallows as it was cheaper and someone in the comments said this recipe makes a lot of fondant. And it does, even with my 10.5oz bag I have a lot leftover. (I wrapped it and put it in the fridge. That stuff tastes great so I'll munch on it over the next few days.)
I had issues with the fondant cracking at the bottom of the cake which is why I put blue frosting (which is leftover of the white above, I dyed it blue) around the base, to cover it. And since I have no decorator tools I just kinda smeared it on there using a ziploc with a corner cut off.
Here's pictures:
Here is the cake on the cooling rack. Ignore the filthy stove and the soup cans that are, for whatever reason, on the stove. See my pretty cake pieces? They didn't crumble!
And here's the cake assembled with frosting on it. I figured the frosting didn't need to be pretty since it was going to be covered anyway.
It looks like a giant marshmallow!
Galaxian is in because it was the last game we played on it. btw, I beat Victor 17,150 - 14,460. Ha!
