Planning

Being that it is December and we've only about 6 months to go I went back to the little list I'd started of stuff to buy and made it much longer and categorized. First we've got things to get whenever, like if we see them on sale, like a non-electric vacuum cleaner and lamps, the stove and generator, etc. Then we've got things to buy before the end of winter, like woodstove piping, since now's the season for it it would be easiest to get it now. Then comes things to buy in spring, like the propane bottle for the stove and water containers, as these are more summer items than winter ones. Then comes things to get for the construction of the house, such as screws and boards, which most of it will wait until we do our big all-at-once buy at Home Depot or wherever, except the cement blocks for the foundation, we'll get those probably about a month earlier when I take my vacation. Then are things that aren't necessary to buy now but are things that would be nice to have on hand if we have spare money, such as things we'd get on the caselot sale at work. Then I've got an Acquired section which is for things we've already bought, like the chainsaw and canning pan, so that as time goes on we won't forget what we've already got, plus it's nice to look at. After that is a section I've yet to start and it will most likely be it's own separate file, and that is for box organization. Like the one I've started will be box 001 and I'll list everything in there. If I happen to take anything out, like a container of tang or a box of tea, I'll scratch it off the list.

I cleaned behind the couch today and set up some of the things we've already bought. First you can see my froggie garbage can which will go in the bathroom. Under it is the canning pan. Next to it under those containers is the chainsaw. Next to that is the tea kettle. The canning jars were on markdown. The clock was a markdown from Wal-Mart, and has a temperature and humidity gauge.

This is stuff I've already packed. Everything in here was a markdown from work, except the jump rope which I found behind the couch, and the tang which was on sale really cheap earlier this year. There are dish towels, a hot pad, tea, tang, scrubbies, clothes pins, clothes line, chapstick, a scrubbie with a handle, wash clothes, and two bottles of ketchup. They are packed in an egg box. Seriously the best kind of box for moving. I highly recommend them to anyone who moves. Go to the grocery store and beg the dairy department to save you some! They aren't all as big as this one, this one fits 24 dozen eggs, but there are some that only hold 15 dozen or 9 dozen. They all have handles, which is the biggest plus. Eggs can get very, very heavy so these boxes can hold a lot of weight. They are also sturdy, to protect the eggs from getting broken.

My kitties often cuddle like this.

This is our algae eater. They are only supposed to get 2" long, ours is roughly 4".
